A friend of mine (Vedere) referred me to these forums, he's quite a player and told me one day I could become like him... at least if I read the forums. I'm some kind of mini-player; more at ease with the ladies away from home (or places where nobody knows me). I'm usually scared of trying things with girls I know (and like) because I don't want to mess up, so I hope this board can give me some tips.

Welcome acemasters! Yes, many guys have the same issue of being afraid to talk to girls they know or girls in there area. It's just an inner game issue. Once you get your confidence to the right level, this won't be such a problem for you anymore.
